# Non-profit learning platform

**Result:** Under $50 a month to run
**Category:** Cloud
**Stack:** Authentication and access control

An online learning platform for kids, built for a non-profit: interactive math exercises, a teacher dashboard and read-only parent access, on serverless infrastructure.

## The problem

The founder had a clear vision and a budget that was a fraction of what most agencies would quote. Cutting features was the obvious answer; prioritising differently was the better one.

## Results

- **<$50** a month for the first 500 users
- **60-70%** lower infrastructure cost than traditional hosting
- **On time** launch, with a foundation that did not need rebuilding

## What I did

1. **Three launch features.** Only what mattered for launch went in. Community, gamification, advanced analytics and notifications went onto a post-launch list.
2. **Learning first.** Interactive math exercises kids can complete on their own. If this did not work well, nothing else mattered.
3. **Teacher dashboard.** Simple progress tracking: who completed what, and where they struggled.
4. **Parent access.** A read-only view of their child’s progress. No editing, no complex permissions.
5. **Serverless and simple auth.** Resources scale with usage, and secure email and password sign-in saved about a week of work.

## What it does

- Interactive math exercises
- Teacher progress dashboard
- Read-only parent view
- Secure email and password sign-in
- Serverless infrastructure that scales with usage
