Non-profit learning platform

An online learning platform for kids, built for a non-profit: interactive math exercises, a teacher dashboard and read-only parent access, on serverless infrastructure.

Under $50 a month to run

The problem

The founder had a clear vision and a budget that was a fraction of what most agencies would quote. Cutting features was the obvious answer; prioritising differently was the better one.

  • <$50

a month for the first 500 users

  • 60-70%

lower infrastructure cost than traditional hosting

  • On time

launch, with a foundation that did not need rebuilding

What I did

  1. Three launch features

Only what mattered for launch went in. Community, gamification, advanced analytics and notifications went onto a post-launch list.

  2. Learning first

Interactive math exercises kids can complete on their own. If this did not work well, nothing else mattered.

  3. Teacher dashboard

Simple progress tracking: who completed what, and where they struggled.

  4. Parent access

A read-only view of their child’s progress. No editing, no complex permissions.

  5. Serverless and simple auth

Resources scale with usage, and secure email and password sign-in saved about a week of work.

What it does

  • Interactive math exercises
  • Teacher progress dashboard
  • Read-only parent view
  • Secure email and password sign-in
  • Serverless infrastructure that scales with usage
